IMAGINATION was something the late, great Brian Wilson had plenty of, and it’s plain to hear on this 1998 solo set. “Lay Down Burden,” “Cry,” and the title track feature some of the most beautiful melodies Wilson had composed since his comeback a decade earlier and such talents as Carole Bayer Sager and Jimmy Buffett contribute lyrics to the album. Other famous friends helping out include Christopher Cross, Eagle Timothy B. Schmit and Beach Boy Bruce Johnston (reworkings of two BB classics are other nods to the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers). Brian’s voice sounds rejuvenated throughout, and it’s framed by arrangements tailor-made for adult contemporary radio. This Record Store Day, IMAGINATION is available for the first time on LP, pressed on 140-gram black vinyl. Available April 18 at your local participating record store.
