10000 Maniacs
10,000 Maniacs’ second album for Elektra (and third overall), IN MY TRIBE, proved a commercial and artistic breakthrough for the Jamestown, New York band. Singer Natalie Merchant truly found her voice on this 1987 collection, with writing credits on virtually every track, including favorites “What's the Matter Here?,” “Like the Weather” and “A Campfire Song.” Her socially aware lyrics are paired with sparkling acoustic and electric arrangements shaped by veteran producer Peter Asher (James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt). Buoyed by the rise of MTV and college radio, IN MY TRIBE struck a bullseye as a double-Platinum hit and one of the most appealing alternative rock albums of the 1980s.
