Metropolis, Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory
When Dream Theater added a “Part 1” to the song title “Metropolis” on their IMAGES AND WORDS LP, it was kind of a goof – but one that eventually resulted in the band’s first concept album, METROPOLIS, PT. 2: SCENES FROM A MEMORY. Told in two acts, the 1999 collection follows Nicholas, who discovers under hypnotherapy that he was murdered in a love triangle in a past life. The intricate storyline is matched by virtuoso musicianship; keyboardist Jordan Rudess joined the group for this set, and John Petrucci’s impassioned axework drew praise from Guitar World magazine. Rolling Stone readers named the collection their #1 Favorite Prog Rock Album of All Time in a 2012 poll, and the ambitious METROPOLIS, PT. 2: SCENES FROM A MEMORY will surely be remembered as one of Dream Theater’s very best.
