Album of the Day
Moondance
From his earliest recordings with Them, it was clear that Van Morrison was one of rock's greatest vocalists and ASTRAL WEEKS confirmed that he was an equally brilliant writer. However, that beautiful song cycle wasn't a hit; it was the follow-up, 1970s MOONDANCE, that propelled Morrison to the top, reaching the Top 40 and selling steadily over the years to go triple platinum. Penned in the bucolic environs of Woodstock (and recorded with some of its local musicians), the self-produced set includes such radio-friendly songs as “Crazy Love,” “Into the Mystic,” and “Caravan.” A fusion of blue-eyed soul, jazz and the music of Morrison's native Ireland, MOONDANCE has been hailed by the likes of Time, Rolling Stone and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the greatest albums ever made.
