Album of the Day
MTV UNPLUGGED

With their background in alternative folk and singer-songwriter sounds,10,000 Maniacs was ideally suited for an appearance on MTV UNPLUGGED. The group’s 1993 album of the same name includes such Maniacs concert staples as “These Are Days,” “Candy Everybody Wants” and “What’s The Matter Here?” as well as a version of the Bruce Springsteen-Patti Smith song “Because The Night” that was released as a single and became the band’s biggest hit. The album itself went triple-Platinum and proved to be the group’s final collection with vocalist Natalie Merchant, who announced her departure for a solo career between the set’s recording and release. Debuting at #13 and spending nearly a year on Billboard’s album chart, MTV UNPLUGGED was a successful swan song for 10,000 Maniacs’ best-known line-up.
