Album of the Day
Naughty
After a successful run with Rufus, Chaka Khan signed with Warner Bros. to launch her solo career with CHAKA; a year later, she was back with NAUGHTY. Re-teaming with producer Arif Mardin, the vocalist sounds even more assured and adventurous on the 1980 collection, which was cut at New York's Atlantic Studios with such instrumental aces as AWB guitarist Hamish Stuart and bassist Anthony Jackson in support - not to mention backing vocalists including Whitney Houston and Luther Vandross. Highlights include club favorite “Clouds” (one of two Ashford & Simpson songs here), “Too Much Love” and hit single “Papillon (a.k.a. Hot Butterfly).” NAUGHTY reached the Top 10 on Billboard’s R&B chart, and it still delivers all the funk and soul you could ask for.
