Album of the Day
Gwen McCrae

Raised on gospel, Gwen Mosley began performing in Florida R&B clubs in the late 1950s, eventually teaming personally and professionally with George McCrae. Signing with disco label T.K. Records, both had their own hits in the mid-’70s, and dance music was also a big part of Gwen’s sound as a solo artist. Released in 1982, ON MY WAY was her second and final album for Atlantic, and it remains a funky favorite. On eight tracks including “Hang In,” “Keep The Fire Burning” and “Be For Real,” the singer works up some irresistible grooves with a little help from Meters guitarist Leo Nocentelli and James Brown’s go-to trombonist Fred Wesley. We lost Gwen McCrae in February of this year, but the delightful ON MY WAY ensures her music will live on.
