Ween ranks among the most gleefully weird bands in alternative rock, and QUEBEC proved that nearly a decade on major label Elektra couldn’t change that. Released for indie Sanctuary in 2003, the collection has a darker tone reflecting struggles with addiction, divorce and the near-fatal car crash of drummer Claude Coleman, Jr. “The vibe of our record is like romantic and rainy without being as classy as Paris,” explained Dean Ween of the album’s title. “It's like this B-version of Leonard Cohen.” True to form, he and partner Gene Ween project that through a kaleidoscope of musical styles and bizarre humor to come up with highlights like “It's Gonna Be a Long Night,” “Transdermal Celebration,” and “If You Could Save Yourself (You'd Save Us All).” Long out of print, QUEBEC returns at the end of this month as a 2-LP set on orange and magenta vinyl.
