Ed Sanford and John Townsend were both in-demand session keyboardists when they joined forces as the Sanford/Townsend Band, whose eponymous debut arrived on Warner Bros. in 1976. Fast forward a year and the group’s Top 10 hit “Smoke from a Distant Fire” earned them a slot opening for Fleetwood Mac on the RUMOURS tour and prompted their label to reissue a renamed version of their album with the single included. Cut at Muscle Shoals Sound Studios with the great Jerry Wexler behind the boards, SMOKE FROM A DISTANT FIRE also features such highlights as “Sunshine in My Heart Again,” “Squire James” and “Oriental Gate (No Chance Of Changin' My Mind),” with guest vocalist Kenny Loggins. A true blue-eyed soul sleeper!
