Album of the Day
Station To Station
With STATION TO STATION, David Bowie took a significant step from the plastic soul of YOUNG AMERICANS toward his Krautrock-tinged Berlin Trilogy. The bulk of the 1976 set was recorded at Los Angeles’ Cherokee Studios, whose cutting-edge recording technology and 24-hour access policy encouraged Bowie’s experimental side. Working with guitar aces Carlos Alomar and Earl Slick (and E Street Band keyboardist Roy Bittan), the Thin White Duke delivered such distinctive tracks as “TVC15,” “Wild Is The Wind” and Top 10 single “Golden Years”; the collection as a whole also reached the Top 10. Haunted by the alienation of Bowie’s Man Who Fell To Earth film character, STATION TO STATION has been cited as one of the greatest albums ever by outlets including Mojo, Rolling Stone and NME.
