Though some of its members had dabbled in rock in the mid-1970s (as Pipeline), by the end of the decade, Kleeer had found the funk. Co-produced by Dennis King at New York City’s Atlantic Records studio, TASTE THE MUSIC was the group’s fifth album for the label and pulses with the electronically enhanced grooves that were all the rage on soul radio in 1982. All eight songs are band originals with “De Ting Continues” and the title track both minor R&B hits. The quartet’s vocal and instrumental work is solid throughout (listen carefully for Luther Vandross singing in the background) and the collection made both Billboard’s Pop and Soul charts. Let us make this perfectly kleeer: TASTE THE MUSIC is a feast for funk fans.
