Lowell George
Best known as Little Feat’s guiding light, Lowell George released a single solo album, THANKS, I’LL EAT IT HERE, shortly before his untimely death in 1979. Not a fan of the jazz-fusion his group had favored on recent releases, the Warner Bros. collection harks back to the musical gumbo of R&B, southern rock and blues that had made DIXIE CHICKEN so tasty. With several fine covers (including songs by Allen Toussaint, Ann Peebles and Rickie Lee Jones) joined by such George originals as “Twenty Million Things,” the set has an easygoing charm that grows with each listen. Featuring guest appearances by Bonnie Raitt, keyboardist Nicky Hopkins and a couple of Little Feat bandmates, THANKS, I’LL EAT IT HERE is a fitting finale for the performer Jackson Browne once called “the Orson Welles of rock.”
