Eddie Harris

Eddie Harris was best known as a tenor saxophonist but played a number of instruments, and his career was marked by a restless search for new sounds since its beginnings in the early 1960s. Released in 1975 near the end of a long tenure with Atlantic Records, THAT IS WHY YOU’RE OVERWEIGHT stands among the performer’s most eclectic. The self-produced (and largely self-composed) set includes tracks that will appeal to fans of jazz (“Exempt”), funk (terrific opener “It's All Right Now”) and even comedy (the title track, which would become a staple of Harris’ concerts). Ranging from solo sax to orchestrated big band numbers, the long out-of-print THAT IS WHY YOU’RE OVERWEIGHT is a musical banquet.
