Album of the Day
The A’s, The B’s & The Monkees
This year marks the 60th anniversary of The Monkees, and the first release to mark the occasion is THE A’S, THE B’S & THE MONKEES. The double-disc set presents each side of the dozen Colgems singles Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Mike Nesmith and Peter Tork released during their 1966-to-1970 incarnation in chronological order. Five of the A-sides (and one of the B-sides) reached the Top Ten, including No.1s “Last Train to Clarksville,” “I'm a Believer” and “Daydream Believer,” but even the less-anthologized cuts display the songwriting and production craftsmanship of the golden age of AM radio. Featuring the original 7” versions, THE A’S, THE B’S & THE MONKEES is an ear-pleasing salute to one of the most beloved bands in music - and television - history.
