Album of the Day
UNDERGROUND

Still riding high from their debut album and a couple of hit singles, The Electric Prunes unleashed UNDERGROUND in August 1967. With producer David Hassinger’s attention occasionally drawn away, the band had a greater say in the music this time, boasting writing credits on most of the dozen tracks including standouts “Hideaway,” “Long Day's Flight” and “The Great Banana Hoax” (there’s also three songs from the “I Had Too Much To Dream…” team of Annette Tucker and Nancie Mantz). True to their name, the Prunes keep the voltage high with plenty of guitar and trippy effects throughout the Reprise collection. Follow-up MASS IN F MINOR would mark a major change in direction and personnel, leaving UNDERGROUND as an outstanding swan song for the original group.
