The New Seekers

If you watched TV regularly in 1971, at some point, you would have seen a group of young people on a hilltop in Italy singing “I’d like to buy the world a Coke.” The soft drink commercial proved so popular that the song (with revised lyrics) was recorded by The New Seekers and became a Top 10 single. The group grafted that track onto the existing album NEW COLOURS to come up with WE’D LIKE TO TEACH THE WORLD TO SING, which itself reached Billboard’s Top 40. The U.K. pop group’s harmonies shine on an eclectic mix of material from writers including Roy Wood, Richard Thompson, Goffin & King and Melanie Safka (scoring another hit with her “The Nickel Song”). WE’D LIKE TO TEACH THE WORLD TO SING shows The New Seekers at the top of their class.
