While the first three Grateful Dead studio albums appealed to many, the Bay Area band didn’t have the breakthrough that would make the world take notice until the June 1970 release of WORKINGMAN'S DEAD. With eight perfect songs - “Casey Jones” and “High Time” among them - the album solidified the Jerry Garcia-Robert Hunter partnership as one of the best songwriting collaborations in music history. Driven by the single “Uncle John’s Band,” the collection reached the Top Thirty (it would eventually be certified Platinum) and marks the point where the sextet's strength in the recording studio finally matched their legendary live performances. In 2023, original band member Mickey Hart created new mixes of WORKINGMAN'S DEAD for an Atmos digital-only release that is available today for the first time on Blu-ray.
