Aquarium Drunkard Presents: January Jukebox 2014, Part 2
With its roots based on the news of Phil Everly's death, last week's playlist ended up concentrating on music pre-1976. And if you did not hear the Everly's do "Lord of The Manor", then you haven't really heard the brothers, so remedy that now. This week, the 'jukebox' feels just like it's namesake - a twenty track run through soul, r&b, rock & roll and pop, ending in a decidedly southern noir manner.
The Beach Boys kick things off with "Passing By" off their 14th(!) studio album, "Friends", before we touch down with Dylan's "Mozambique", Link Wray's "Jukebox Mama", and Bobby Charles' "Long Face" via his self-titled record (that is coincidentally seeing a vinyl reissue next month through Light In The Attic Records). From there it's all spare change from the bar plugging the juke, with cameo's from the likes of Eddie Hinton, Willie West, Boz Scaggs and beyond.
