The legend of Todd Rundgren's 10th studio album, 1982's The Ever Popular Tortured Artist Effect, is that was a contractual obligation; a hastily assembled collection of tracks to put the final nail in his record deal with the Bearsville label. The claim is exemplified by the record's surprise hit single, "Bang The Drum All Day." While it only peaked at #63 on the Hot 100, the song's timeless appeal has been an ongoing financial windfall for Rundgren.

"It's a party anthem, and at least once a year I get a request to use it in a commercial or a movie," the artist explained to DePauw University radio station WGRE. "I hate playing it live, though. I feel ape-like. My hands get tired, my ears get tired. But the audience loves it."

The first single from The Ever Popular Tortured Artist Effect, however, is a slice of classic radio-ready Rundgren power-pop. The song arrived with a slick music video, featuring a surreal landscape where the world plays across Rundgren's round sunglasses. RHINO has shined up the "Hideaway" clip and posted it to YouTube in official form. Tune in this amazing example of why Todd Rundgren is a musical genius, and should have been inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame ages ago.
