The Flaming Lips - Seeing the Unseeable

For much of the world at large, the career of The Flaming Lips might as well have started in 1995, i.e. when they took to the stage of The Peach Pit After Dark for their performance of “She Don’t Use Jelly” on the long-running teen drama Beverly Hills 90210...and, yes, that really happened. In reality, the band first started kicking around Oklahoma City a dozen years earlier, releasing indie albums, slowly but surely raising their profile to such a degree that they finally secured a deal with Warner Bros. Records in 1991.

As you may already be aware, Rhino and Warner Bros. have teaming up to celebrate the long, wide, and incredibly varied career of The Flaming Lips, and we kicked off that celebration back on April 20 with the release of SCRATCHING THE DOOR: THE FIRST RECORDINGS OF THE FLAMING LIPS, a 19-track compilation containing music from the band’s original lineup, i.e. back when Mark Coyne was still on vocals, and with all of the tunes remastered from original sources by producer David Fridmann and a pair of Lips: Wayne Coyne and Michael Ivins.

On June 29, we continue the cel-Lips-bration with… Actually, we’ll pause for just a moment to allow you ample time to wince, but whenever you’re reading to continue reading, here’s what we wanted to tell you about that date: we’ll be releasing SEEING THE UNSEEABLE: THE COMPLETE STUDIO RECORDINGS OF THE FLAMING LIPS 1986-1990, a 6-CD set which includes the band’s four albums for Restless Records – HEAR IT IS (1986), OH MY GAWD!!!...
