Kate Bush Reacts to RUNNING UP THAT HILL on STRANGER THINGS: "It's An Epic Piece of Work"
Everything's coming up Kate Bush. The legendary artist has made a very unexpected chart comeback with her 1985 single, "Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)," taken from the album Hounds of Love. The song's resurgence was powered by a pivotal (and breath-taking) moment during the season 4 opener of popular Netflix show, Stranger Things. Now thanks to the striking onscreen collaboration, Kate Bush and her music are front and center in public consciousness. The track has claimed the #1 slot on Spotify's top 50 - Global Charts for the first time. Streams of "Running Up That Hill" have sent the tune running back up the charts, with the single currently perched at #8 on the Hot 100 in America, positioned between Bad Bunny at #7 and Harry Styles at #9. The impact is being felt around the world, with "Running..." re-charting in Australia (#2), New Zealand (#2), Switzerland (#4), the UK (#8), Germany (#14), Sweden (#17), and more. The track has also claimed the #1 slot on Spotify’s Top 50 – Global Charts for the first time.
It's been enough to elicit a response from the artist herself, with Kate Bush sharing a new statement regarding the sudden resurgence of her music:
"When the first series came out, friends kept asking us if we’d seen 'Stranger Things’, so we checked it out and really loved it. We’ve watched every series since then, as a family. When they approached us to use Running Up That Hill, you could tell that a lot of care had gone into how it was used in the context of the story and I really liked the fact that the song was a positive totem for the character, Max. I’m really impressed by this latest series. It's an epic piece of work - the shows are extremely well put together with great characters and fantastic SFX. It’s very touching that the song has been so warmly received, especially as it’s being driven by the young fans who love the shows. I’m really happy that the Duffer Brothers are getting such positive feedback for their latest creation. They deserve it."
