Now Available: Blue Man Group, Three

At last, Blue Man Group has fulfilled their destiny: they’ve released a studio album for each member.

At this very moment, Three, the BMG’s latest full-length studio endeavor, is available for your purchasing pleasure, and you’ll find that it contains 14 new instrumental tracks, including “Giacometti,” the first single. In a related story, there’s also a video for the single, and if you haven’t gotten around to checking it out yet, we can take care of that problem for you right now.

If you’re not someone who’s followed Blue Man Group’s career, you may be surprised that they’ve got a musical career at all, given that their persona seems to the outsider to be little more than three hyperactive guys painted blue. In fact, Three – which is their first album in 13 years, believe it or not – actually builds on the sound they established on 1999’s Audio and expanded on for 2003’s The Complex, with the BMG utilizing a few new instruments:

The Snorkelbone, which is described as “a PVC pipe take on the traditionally wooden aboriginal instrument the Didgeridoo.”

The Chmeulum, which is described as “orchestral chimes on steroids.”

There are also collaborations with Brazilian percussionist Marivaldo Dos Santos ("Hex Suit" and "Torus"), Super Natsuki Tamura ("Giacometti"), DJ Mike Relm ("3 to 1"), and Yusuke Yamamoto ("Hex Suit" and "Robots"), among others.

If you’re a fan, prepare to be excited. If you’re not a fan yet, there’s never been a better time to start. Or maybe there was. But this is certainly the best window for new fans to join up in 13 years, so you might well take advantage of it.
