BBC SESSIONS LIVE

You can say a lot of things about Green Day. One thing that can never be said, however, is that the modern punk outfit from the Bay don't know how to write a good song. It's the first that jumps out of this, the band's fourth live album: a collection of recordings captured between 1994 to 2001, when Billie Joe Armstrong, Tre Cool and Mike Dirnt visited the BBC’s Maida Vale Studios in London one four separate occasions, recording live sessions for Radio 1's "Evening Show" and its popular DJ Steve Lamacq.

BBC Sessions documents those stunning radio shows, and includes many of the band's global hits including "When I Come Around," "Brain Stew/Jaded," and "Minority." The performances throughout the years are staggeringly tight, with the band charging through their tunes with radio-ready precision. Without the benefit of the adrenaline and noise that comes with a big live audience, the songs still crackle with sold-out concert energy. The version of "Basket Case" here is outstanding, as is a menacing run through Nimrod classic, "Hitchin' a Ride." Tune in a give Green Day's BBC Sessions a spin below.
