(May 14, 2026 - Los Angeles, CA) Rhino’s Quadio series continues its deep dive into the 1970s with four albums that helped define the artists who made them: Carly Simon’s self-titled debut, Mongo Santamaria’s Mongo at Montreux, Randy Newman’s Sail Away, and Seals & Crofts’ Diamond Girl. All four arrive today on Blu-ray. 

Each disc pairs the original quadraphonic mix with a hi-res 192 kHz/24-bit stereo transfer, with both sourced from the original analog four-track quad master tapes. Carly Simon (1971) signaled the arrival of a major new voice in the singer-songwriter movement, earning Simon the Grammy® Award for Best New Artist. Produced by Eddie Kramer, the debut featured her first Top 10 hit, “That’s The Way I’ve Always Heard It Should Be.” The success of the single and album tracks like “Alone” and “Best Thing” established the sophisticated, introspective pop style that became her hallmark.

Mongo at Montreux (1971) showcases the conga legend’s explosive performance at the famous jazz festival. He and his band deliver a percussive set featuring Afro-Cuban reimaginings of The Temptations’ “Cloud Nine” and his own hit “I Wanna Know.” His Havana roots anchor the traditional “Comé Candela” and the rhythmic tour de force “Conversation In Drums.” The show reaches peak frenzy with “Watermelon Man,” a song written by Herbie Hancock that became a Top 10 hit for Santamaria in 1963.

Sail Away (1972) solidified Newman’s reputation for sophisticated musicality and satire on one of his most subversively beautiful albums. Produced by Lenny Waronker and Russ Titelman, the collection juxtaposes grand orchestral arrangements like the title track with the stark intimacy of Newman alone at the piano on “Dayton, Ohio – 1903.” Whether skewering fame on “Lonely At The Top” or politics on “Political Science,” his sharp-witted perspective defined a new standard in American songwriting.

Diamond Girl (1973) found Jimmy Seals and Dash Crofts leaning into a more polished sound, expanding their folk-pop roots with the driving “Standin’ On A Mountain Top” and atmospheric “Nine Houses.” The album went Top 10, introducing two major hits, the jazz-inflected title track (#6) and its melodic follow-up “We May Never Pass This Way (Again)” (#21). Even when they’re rocking out on “It’s Gonna Come Down (On You),” the duo’s signature two-part harmonies remain the center of attention.
