Rhino’s Got You Covered: Esther Phillips, Neil, ZZ Top, and Lindsey Buckingham

Itâs Wednesday, so it must be time to take another dip into the Rhino catalog and trot out a new quartet of cover songs that you may or may not have heard before. Letâs get started, shall we?
⢠Esther Phillips, âAs Tears Go Byâ (1965): Youâll know this Rolling Stones song, of course, from Marianne Faithfullâs cover, but Philips had a thing for the British Invasion, scoring a hit this same year with her cover of The Beatlesâ âAnd I Love Her.â
⢠Neil, âHole in My Shoeâ (1984): If you watched The Young Ones, then you know Neil, and if you know Neil, then you wonât be surprised how many hippie-era tunes he covers on this classic (to the right crew) album, including this Traffic track.
⢠ZZ Top, âViva Las Vegasâ (1992): When ZZ Top released their first career-spanning best-of collection in the early â90s, they were, of course, obliged to offer up a new track or two. Enter this Elvis cover, which rocks just as hard as youâd expect it to.
⢠Lindsey Buckingham, âTo Try for the Sunâ (2006): Buckingham has often paid tribute to his favorite composers, be it Brian Wilson â you may recall Fleetwood Macâs cover of âFarmerâs Daughterâ â or Kurt Weill, whose âSeptember Songâ appeared on Buckinghamâs solo debut, LAW AND ORDER. This time it was Donovan who got a little love from Lindsey, but he also tackled a Rolling Stones track on this LP.
