There's a very strong chance that at this very moment, someone is still arguing about Toronto's finest, The Weeknd, and his frankly stunning halftime performance at Super Bowl LV. The visually arresting show revealed that the artist born Abel Tesfaye has more hits up his sleeve than just the massive "Blinding Lights," that's for sure.

The same wildly creative hub of Toronto, Canada, is home to a host of creative projects making noise in music circles around the world. With rap superstar Drake at the eye of the storm, acts including PARTYNEXTDOOR, dvsn, and Majid Jordan are among the leading lights in the fertile scene at the heart of "The Six."

For Majid Jordan, singer Majid Al Maskati and producer Jordan Ullman connected in 2011 at the University of Toronto, making music in Ullman's dorm room and posting the results on SoundCloud. It wasn't long before the band's lush, club-ready sounds found them signed to Drake's OVO label by the rapper's right-hand producer, Noah "40" Shebib. By 2013, the duo was co-producing tracks on Drake's blockbuster Nothing Was the Same release, specifically "Hold On, We're Going Home." In 2016, Majid Jordan released their major label debut, Majid Jordan (OVO/Warner Bros.), on February 5, 2016.

Launching the self-titled Warner Bros. effort with Drake-assisted single, "My Love," the album made a deep and immediate impact on streaming services and the charts. Crashing the top 20 of Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart to peak at #12, the underground duo was able to make a respectable run at the Billboard 200, peaking at #69.

"Timeless music is what we wanted to achieve with this album. I think something timeless is not really based on time but more in the enjoyment of the sounds," is how Jordan Ullman put it during an interview with Acclaim. "We feel like we can listen to an album and enjoy it, regardless of whether it was made five years ago, 10 years ago or 20 years ago. You don’t really know when it was made, so I feel like that is what timeless music is."

"[We listen to music] all the way from Motown to house music to electronica, and we listen to a lot of Janet Jackson and Marvin Gaye," added Majid Al Maskati in the same interview. "We really appreciate young producers that go out and experiment with sound as well, like trap artists that take a different approach to music today."
