Out Now: Stone Temple Pilots, CORE 25th Anniversary Edition (Article)
Friday, September 29, 2017
Here’s a factoid that’ll rock you to your core: it’s been 25 years since Stone Temple Pilots released their debut album. Arriving in the midst of the grunge movement, the hard rock sounds of STP were exactly what listeners were looking for at the time, resulting in songs like “Plush,” “Sex Type Thing,” and “Wicked Garden” entering regular radio rotation and staying there for… Well, actually, all three of those songs are still in regular radio rotation, if that gives you any idea of just how long-term the band’s success has proven to be. In celebration of this significant anniversary, Rhino has

Remember not so long ago when Rhino released a super-deluxe edition of Stone Temple Pilots’ CORE to commemorate that album’s 25th anniversary? Well, this year marks the 25th anniversary of the band’s sophomore album, PURPLE, and since fans seemed sufficiently smitten by that last release, we thought we’d do it all over again for this one. The super-deluxe edition of PURPLE features three CDs and an LP, or there’s also a digital version if that’s the direction you’d prefer to go. Whichever version floats your boat, though, they’re all coming out tomorrow, and it’ll provide you with more STP

The One after the Big One: Stone Temple Pilots, TINY MUSIC … SONGS FROM THE VATICAN GIFT SHOP (Article)
Thursday, November 9, 2017
The things that distinguished Stone Temple Pilots from their grunge brethren were two-headed song- and riff-writing monster known as the DeLeo brothers (bassist Robert and guitarist Dean) and the magnetic allure of charismatic front man Scott Weiland. The band's debut, CORE, introduced a group that could bludgeon you with the heaviness of "Sex Type Thing" or "Plush," and just as easily provide fodder for contemplation in "Creep." That pliable songcraft and performance reappeared on PURPLE, STP's sophomore effort, which hit Number One and featured "Interstate Love Song," a track that sounded at

First Listen: Stone Temple Pilots, “Meadow” (Article)
Wednesday, November 15, 2017
A new era in the history of Stone Temple Pilots began last night in Los Angeles, when the band took to the stage of the Troubadour for a private show and introduced the audience of the iconic nightclub to their new lead singer, Jeff Gutt. Gutt – and that’s pronounced “goot,” by the way, and not “gut” – hails from Detroit and has been a part of the Motor City music scene for quite some time, but he’s spent the past year writing and recording new material with founding STP members Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo, and Eric Kretz, and you will be thrilled to learn that the first fruit from that crop of

Happy Birthday: Dean DeLeo (Article)
Wednesday, August 23, 2017
Today we celebrate the birthday of Dean DeLeo, guitarist and songwriter for Stone Temple Pilots. In honor of this occasion, we’ve put together a list of five non-STP projects which have featured DeLeo in one capacity or another. (Don’t worry, though: we’ve offered up Stone Temple Pilots’ THANK YOU for your listening enjoyment, too.) Talk Show, “Hello Hello” – In 1997, when Scott Weiland was…well, to be polite, let’s just say he was not entirely available and leave it at that, but in his absence, Dean DeLeo, his brother Robert, and Eric Kretz joined forces with Dave Coutts, formerly of Ten Inch
