Album of the Day

Live 1967

Though Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Mike Nesmith and Peter Tork all had musical experience prior to The Monkees TV show, when the time came to take their hits on the road, they were thrown into the deep end – and rose to the occasion. LIVE 1967 was recorded at summer tour stops in Seattle, Spokane and Portland during a year when The Monkees outsold The Beatles and The Rolling Stones combined, and the electricity in the air is plain to hear. Along with stripped-down versions of such classics as “Last Train to Clarksville,” “I'm a Believer” and “The Girl I Knew Somewhere,” the 16 tracks include solo turns from each member backed by opening act The Sundowners. Among the first archival releases to follow the Monkees revival of the mid 1980s, LIVE 1967 still packs a wallop.
