Album of the Day
Chicago
Chicago is thought of as a “horn band” and rightly so – trumpeter Lee Loughnane, trombonist James Pankow, and saxophonist Walter Parazaider stand among the finest players in rock. But the group started with a top-notch guitarist as well, Terry Kath, who played on the band's first dozen albums before his death in a shooting accident in 1978. CHICAGO VI shows Kath's fretwork off to fine effect (along with his vocals on the superb ballad “Jenny”) and the set's many highlights include singles “Feelin' Stronger Every Day” and “Just You 'N' Me.” Filled with winning soft rock, the double-Platinum collection was the first the band recorded in its custom-built Colorado studio, and was the #1 album in America this week in 1973.
