Frankie Valli
Frankie Valli's place in the rock history books is so prominent as the frontman of The Four Seasons that it's easy to miss the chapter on his considerable solo success. The Seasons had cooled a bit on the charts by the mid-1970s when Valli's debut for Private Stock arrived to pick up the slack. CLOSEUP teams him with producers Bob Gaudio and Bob Crewe (who had been behind the boards for so many of his group's classic hits) and outstanding session players including guitarist Larry Carlton, drummer Jim Keltner and singer Patti Austin. The resulting eight tracks featured a pair of smash hits: the disco-friendly “Swearin' To God” and ballad “My Eyes Adored You,” which became Frankie Valli's first solo No.1 on this day in 1975. With the superb CLOSEUP, one of popular music's all-time great voices is reborn.
