Richard Brooks' 1971 caper comedy $ (or Dollars) stars Warren Beatty and Goldie Hawn as a pair out to steal ill-gotten gains deposited by criminals in a German bank. The film's soundtrack was also star-studded – helmed by producer Quincy Jones, the set features performances by Roberta Flack, Doug Kershaw and Little Richard (whose three vocal numbers include album opener “Money Is”). Jones' instrumental compositions are just as noteworthy; tracks like “Snow Creatures” and “Kitty With the Bent Frame” have been sampled by such hip-hoppers as Gang Starr and Mobb Deep. As part of Rhino's “Start Your Ear Off Right” campaign, $ (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) has just been released on colored vinyl – green, of course!
