Now Available: The Cars, The Elektra Years: 1978-1987
It’s a rare band that can successfully escape the tag of “new wave” to become full-fledged rock legends, but such is the case with The Cars, who hit the Top 40 in 1978 with their now-iconic single “Just What I Needed” and would do so a dozen more times before calling it quits in 1988.
During the course of their initial run, The Cars – whose iconic five-man lineup consisted of Ric Ocasek, Benjamin Orr, Greg Hawkes, Elliot Easton, and David Robinson – released a six-pack of studio albums, all of which have been digitally remastered and have been reissued as part of a brand new set entitled The Elektra Years: 1978 – 1987. Each of the CDs is housed in a replica sleeve featured the original artwork, but don’t worry, vinyl fans: we’re also releasing a limited-edition 180-gram vinyl version of the set, with each LP pressed on a different color vinyl.
Unfortunately, the vinyl version won’t be hitting stores ‘til June 7, so you’ll have to hang tough for a bit yet, but at least you know it’s coming. For now, we’ll just refresh your memory on what songs are included on each of the albums and remind you that you can pick up a digital copy or a CD version right at this very moment…so get it already!
