When it comes to interpreters of other singers’ works, there are few who rank anywhere near Judy Collins, so it’s no wonder that the folks who put together the trailer for the new Garrett Hedlund – Forest Whitaker film Burden decided to utilize her version of the classic spiritual “Amazing Grace” to score the proceedings.

Inspired by true events, the film revolves around Mike Burden (Hedlund), an orphan who was raised within the Ku Klux Klan but decides to leave the organization’s beliefs behind because of the urgings of his girlfriend, Judy (Andrea Riseborough). It’s a noble gesture, not to mention a significant one for someone who grew up being force-fed those racist beliefs, but it’s easier said than done. Thankfully, Mike has the support of a black Baptist church congregation, led by Reverend David Kennedy (Whitaker).

As you can see, “Amazing Grace” is an absolutely perfect tune for this film, and now you know which version you’re hearing, so you can pick up a copy for yourself.
