Friday, April 24, 2015
The Electric Fetus has been a gathering place for music heads and counter-culturists in Minnesota since 1968. Head on over to the Minneapolis location where you can grab a free Replacements poster with a purchase of their recently released THE COMPLETE STUDIO ALBUMS 1981-1990 boxed set, while supplies last. Happy 15th: Neil Young, Silver & Gold (Article)
Friday, April 24, 2015
15 years ago today, Neil Young released his 24th studio album, an effort which delivered a sonic return to his country-tinged sounds of his ‘70s material. This was not a bad thing. Recorded at various points during the late ‘90s (between August 26, 1997 and May 28, 1999, to be more specific), Silver & Gold found Young in a more thoughtful mood than he’d often been during the ‘80s and ‘90s, a.k.a. the angry old man period which found him delivering tracks like “This Note’s for You” and “Rockin’ in the Free World.” Indeed, this tends to be a pretty peaceful album, with Young coming across as

Saturday, April 18: Record Store Day (Article)
Thursday, April 16, 2015
Given the sort of folks who frequent this site, it almost feels superfluous to offer a reminder about Record Store Day, but just to play it safe, here goes: RECORD STORE DAY IS THIS SATURDAY! Actually, you know, we’re kind of glad we did that. It was pretty cathartic. We really don’t have a whole lot else to add, beyond the reminder that you can visit RecordStoreDay.com to confirm the location(s) of the nearest participating store(s) in your area, but in the interest of self-promotion, here’s a list of all 30 limited-edition 12-inch, 10-inch, and 7-inch releases that we’ll be putting out on

Wednesday, April 15, 2015
New this week in the Rhino Room at iTunes: Alas, there’s just the one addition to the digital catalog this week, but it’s a really great one that’s more than deserving of the solo spotlight. The Dream Academy, The Morning Lasted All Day: A Retrospective – If you know anything about The Dream Academy at all, then you likely know that the title of this 24-track anthology of singles, album tracks, and rarities comes courtesy of their biggest hit of their career, the lovely pastoral single entitled “Life in a Northern Town.” But if that’s all you know, then you may be surprised to find that the

Digital Roundup: 8/10/15 (Article)
Monday, August 10, 2015
New this week in the Rhino Room at iTunes: King Curtis, Instant Groove: The title of this instrumental album by one of the great saxophonists of both R&B and rock ‘n’ roll really couldn’t be more apropos: it truly is an instant groove from start to finish, with Curtis delivering covers of such classics as “Hey Joe,” “Wichita Lineman,” “The Weight,” “Little Green Apples,” “Somewhere” (from West Side Story), and “Hey Jude.” King Curtis, Get Ready: Following a similar format to its predecessor, this album includes a number of covers, including “Get Ready,” “Bridge over Troubled Water,” “Something
