Playlist: Lewis Watson's Favorite Songs (Article)
Wednesday, July 9, 2014
Rising English singer-songwriter Lewis Watson released his debut album THE MORNING earlier this week and still found time to dig up some of his top tunes for a playlist for the Official Rhino Spotify app. This playlist contains some of the songs that I'm sure I will always absolutely love - songs that have molded the way I look at songwriting and my ambitions as a songwriter. If I could write a song that would make somebody else feel a tenth of what I feel when I listen to these songs, I'd hang up my boots and say 'done.' - Lewis Watson

Doing a 180: Syd Barrett, Saturday Night Fever, and Ronnie James Dio: This Is Your Life (Article)
Tuesday, July 8, 2014
It’s not what you’d call a hard and fast rule, but when we post an entry in our “Doing a 180” feature to spotlight a new release on 180-gram vinyl, we generally tend to only spotlight one artist at a time. This week, though, we’re playing a little bit of catch-up, so we’re combining a couple of releases into a single piece, a la our weekly Digital Roundup, so hopefully you’ll forgive us for trying to condense what would ordinarily be a trio of posts into a single entry, and please trust us when we tell you that they’re all very much worthy of their own posts…particularly this first one. Syd

Doing a 180: Bad Company’s First Two Albums are Back on Vinyl (Article)
Thursday, July 3, 2014
Get Bad Company on 180-gram vinyl Get Straight Shooter on 180-gram vinyl There’s a lot of Bad Company to be had here at Rhino this week, as we’ve just reissued Bad Company’s Bad Company album – which, as you probably know, also features the song “Bad Company” – on 180-gram vinyl. We’ve also reissued the band’s sophomore effort, Straight Shooter, which includes “Feel Like Making Love” and “Shooting Star” and is a pretty great slab of ‘70s rock in its own right…but, darn it, it’s just not as much fun to announce as that whole Bad Company trifecta. Good ol’ Bad Company. Their self-titled effort

Digital Roundup: 7/2/14 (Article)
Wednesday, July 2, 2014
New this week in the Rhino Room at iTunes: Chaka? Gamma! Gamma? Chaka! Okay, so it’s no Oprah and Uma, but David Letterman’s notoriously awkward Oscars joke was still the first thing that came to mind when we saw that this week’s only two digital releases were Chaka Khan’s The Studio Album Collection: 1978-1992 and the third album by the San Francisco band Gamma, appropriately entitled Gamma 3. Yes, they’re decidedly disparate artists, but they’ve each got their fans, so let’s take a quick look at both efforts, just so you know what they are and if they might be something you’d find

Aquarium Drunkard Presents: Lyle Lovett: The Other Thin White Duke (Article)
Monday, December 21, 2015
Townes Van Zandt has had many acolytes over the past 40 years, but it's Lyle Lovett who grabbed, and held, my attention. A lover, and performer, or various genres - from country, jazz, blues and Tejano - to standards from the American Songbook, Lovett, to the causal observer, may not immediately connect the Van Zandt dots. But they are there, and none more so than on Lovett's 1998 double record, Step Inside This House, his tribute to fellow Texan songwriters, prominently featuring the music of Townes. This week's playlist pulls from the first seven Lovett albums, beginning with 1986's self
