Thursday, March 8, 2018
Today we celebrate the birthday of a guy who has a long history of Monkee-ing around: Micky Dolenz. You might not see his face, but if you’ve been wondering why they sounded so familiar, well, now you know! 1. Skip, The Funky Phantom (1971) : While Jonathan Wellington “Mudsy” Muddlemore was the titular character of this Hanna

R.I.P. Adam Schlesinger: Singer, Songwriter, Musician, Monkees Producer (Article)
Wednesday, April 1, 2020
Today we learned of a casualty of COVID-19, and while it was one that truly gutted us, we know we’re not alone in mourning the loss of Adam Schlesinger, who died at age 52 from complications of the virus. Born in New York City on Halloween 1967, Adam Schlesinger grew up in Manhattan and Montclair, New Jersey, went to Montclair High School, and then got a Bachelor of Arts from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. That’s where he met Chris Collingwood for the first time. No, the Schlesinger / Collingwood friendship didn’t immediately lead to the formation of Fountains of Wayne, but

Friday, December 2, 2016
49 years ago today, The Monkees were sitting atop the Billboard 200 with their fourth album, thereby providing the group with their fourth consecutive chart-topping LP. Sadly, the streak would stop there, but four #1 albums in a row is nothing to sneeze at. Like HEADQUARTERS before it, PISCES, AQUARIUS, CAPRICORN, AND JONES LTD found the members of The Monkees playing their own instruments, if not quite to the same extent as they had on the previous album, but there was a notable shift in the material, with Michael Nesmith taking lead vocals on five tracks and Mickey Dolenz only singing on

Rhino Factoids: Head Hits the Big Screen (Article)
Friday, November 6, 2015
47 years ago today, The Monkees released their first and only major motion picture, an effort which-although it has certainly found a fanbase over the years—served to befuddle far more of the band's fans than it charmed. 1968 did not begin as the best of all possible years for The Monkees: NBC had kicked their prime-time TV series to the curb in March, which—probably not coincidentally—was the same month that they released their final top-10 single, “Valleri.” By the time the show disappeared from NBC's lineup, however, Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork were already
