Album of the Day
DANCIN’ AND LOVIN’
In the early 1970s, The Spinners were Philly soul royalty, but by the end of the decade, the group was struggling – until DANCIN’ AND LOVIN’ hit stores. The first collection co-produced by the band (and noted R&B helmer Michael Zager), the 1979 Atlantic set successfully reinvents them for the disco era, and an invigorating cover of The Four Seasons’ “Working My Way Back to You” became a Top 10 hit. With recent addition John Edwards joining stalwarts Henry Fambrough and Bobby Smith, the lead and harmony vocal work is immaculate on further highlights “Body Language” and “With My Eyes.” As this album proves, the music of The Spinners is perfect for DANCIN’ AND LOVIN’.
