As you might guess from its title, Jefferson Starship’s Nuclear Furniture features post-apocalyptic themes appropriate for its 1984 release date. That’s largely due to co-founder Paul Kantner’s three songs (he would depart after this album, prompting the band to shorten its name to Starship). Grace Slick’s songwriting contributions include the outstanding “Showdown”; other highlights of the group’s eighth studio set are Mickey Thomas’ “Layin' It on the Line” and “No Way Out,” which topped Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The Gold-certified Nuclear Furniture shows the legendary San Francisco band bringing a radio-ready collection of arena rock to the table.
